Karachi: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation has been directed by Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar to remove illegal construction around all parks in the city, reported a news source. The anti-encroachment drive in the city has landed in its eighth phase.<\/p>\n
Akhtar said that the purpose of this initiative is to provide better recreational facilities to the people. He specifically mentioned that illegal structures around Hill Park, Jheel Park, Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim, and Aziz Bhatti Park should be removed immediately. He also said that all parks in Karachi should be made free of any illegal construction around it.<\/p>\n
Akhtar also affirmed that the anti-encroachment operation, which was started on orders of Supreme Court of Pakistan, will last till problem is solved throughout the city; from all parks, all playgrounds, all roads and public places.<\/p>\n
According to Metropolitan Commissioner Dr Syed Saifur Rehman, around 1,000 illegally built shops around Empress Market in Saddar have been razed in the last one week. The debris at the site will be lifted by tomorrow. To stop encroachers from rising again, a vigilance committee and a task force is being formed.<\/p>\n
