Islamabad: The top court yesterday lowered the land transfer charges in Bani Gala area of the federal capital after a lawyer contended that properties in the vicinity could not be regularised under the present charges.<\/p>\n
Lawyer Ayesha Hamid, during the hearing of a case pertaining to encroachment and illegal construction in Bani Gala, argued that inheritors often found it difficult to pay excessive transfer charges, calculated at five per cent of the land value.<\/p>\n
She said most of the heirs had no option but to sell their inherited properties in their bid to cover the resgularisation charges.<\/p>\n
Chief Justice Saqib Nisar, while ordering stern action against illegal construction reduced the charges from five to 2.5 per cent of the land value, saying the revised charges would provide a relief to the people.<\/p>\n
He also ordered concerned persons to abide by Capital Development Authority\u2019s rules and regulations pertaining to construction in the area, adding that the role of the Environmental Protection Agency must not be violated.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
