Peshawar: Upper Chitral has been accorded the status of a separate district with Booni Town as its headquarters, a news source reported. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government notified the development after it approved the division of Chitral into two separate districts.<\/p>\n
According to the notification issued by the Board of Revenue, the provincial government notified Upper Chitral as a district with Booni town as its district headquarters with immediate effect in exercise of powers conferred under sections 5 and 6 of Land Revenue Act, 1967.<\/p>\n
Upper Chitral would now include Mastuj and Torkhow\/Mulkhow subdivisions. Areas of Chitral tehsil, however, have not been made part of the district.<\/p>\n
According to the notification, union councils and wards including Booni, Laspur, Mastuj and Yarkhun will be parts of Mastuj tehsil while Torkhow\/Mulkhow tehsil would include Khot, Shogram, Terich, Mulkhow, Kosht and Owir union councils.<\/p>\n
Prior to the bifurcation, Chitral was the largest district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in terms of area and spread over 14,850 square kilometres.
