Karachi: The second phase of Water for Women project has been launched with the aim to replenish groundwater by collecting rainwater for the residents of Kohistan in Thatta district of Sindh, a news source reported. Phase-II has set a target to replenish 200 million litres of water.<\/p>\n
The project, which is a collaboration between Coca-Cola Pakistan and Indus Earth Trust, will benefit as many as 5,500 inhabitants living in 25 villages of Kohistan.<\/p>\n
Coca-Cola Pakistan has pledged a grant of PKR 13.7 million for Phase-II of the project. They beverage giant together with Indus Earth Trust had over-achieved Phase-I target.<\/p>\n
The project primarily involves the excavation of 25 rainwater reservoirs, installation of 10 hand pumps to be used by the locals and the distribution of 200 water wheels to be used by women in the villages.<\/p>\n
It also targets Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3, which focuses on better health and wellbeing, and SDG 6, which revolves around clean water and sanitation.
