Lahore: On the instructions of Prime Minister Imran Khan, Punjab Agriculture Department has started to take related measures to set up the country\u2019s first produce auctioning market in Lakhodair, reported a news source. The 1646 kanals of land previously purchased for shifting fruits and vegetable market from Badami Bagh will now be used for setting up the market.<\/p>\n
This particular market will be unlike the conventional markets having shops, wholesale outlets and middlemen, but will instead serve as an auction platform having cold storages. For the purpose of grading fruits and vegetables in this market, the government will also set high-tech grader plants. Furthermore, machines will be installed to pack the graded commodities.<\/p>\n
According to the plans, an e-auction system will also be installed in the market via modern computer technology. After the formation of this auction market, Badami Bagh Mandi will become a retail market, which will receive fruits and vegetables sent from the Lakhodair Market. .<\/p>\n
To further speed up the process of setting up this auction market, the Agriculture Department has requested the government to release funds worth PKR 160 million; this amount will paid to the land owners against 566 kanals acquired for the project.<\/p>\n
