Islamabad: To control the water contamination level in Rawal Lake, which supplies water to the twin cities, four water treatment plants will be installed, a news source reported. These plants will filter 9 million gallon of water on a daily basis.<\/p>\n
The information was shared during a meeting of standing committee on Environmental Changes. The meeting was chaired by Senator Sitara Ayaz and attended by several important officials including Environment Protection Agency (EPA) Director General Farzana Altaf. Altaf told the meeting members that polluted water from Rawal Lake is spreading Hepatitis and other fatal diseases among the citizens of Islamabad.<\/p>\n
To control the situation, EPA will set four water treatment plants at a cost of PKR 6.3 billion. Funds for the project will be provided by the federal government, Government of Punjab and Capital Development Authority.<\/p>\n
