Islamabad: Uzbekistan has approached Afghanistan for a potential rail agreement linking the two economies with Pakistan, Russia and Kazakhstan, a news source reported. A meeting to this effect took place between the officials concerned on December 3-4 in Tashkent. Uzbek Ambassador in Pakistan Furqat Sidiqov said the potential railway link would facilitate trade and save time. He also proposed setting up a commission to expedite negotiations. Pakistan is already engaged in talks with several other countries, including Iran and South Korea, to develop its railway sector. Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed has also said that the department is open to investment from all countries.
