Islamabad: The Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU) administration has formally placed a request before the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) to help clear the varsity land from illegal encroachments, a news source reported. The request comes in liaison with the ongoing country-wide anti-encroachment drive<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The varsity released a statement regarding the illegal encroachments a few days ago. A warning was issued to the offenders which ordered them to clear the land immediately, or risk falling prey to the government\u2019s operation. The statement further cautioned that encroachers will be fully held responsible for any damages incurred during the demolition process.<\/p>\n

Previously, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) had acquired over 1,700 acres of land from 1962 to 1972 in order to build the University of Islamabad campus – now known as QAU. But the purchased area had not been marked and fenced. This led to the illegal occupants taking over, whose holdings included nine villages that covered 298 acres.<\/p>\n

Through the information provided in a nationwide survey, QUA demarked its land two years ago. This helped the university administration to mark the campus\u2019s boundary line more prominently.<\/p>\n
