A three-judge bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar, issued the directives.<\/p>\n<p>The bench was hearing a <em>suo motu<\/em> case regarding the functioning of <em>patwaris, kanungos and tehsildars<\/em>. It ruled that property transfers through verbal deals within urban settings will not be legally recognised anymore.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Nisar had earlier <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zameen.com\/news\/provinces-asked-to-clarify-role-of-patwarkhanas-in-urban-centres.html\">questioned <em>patwaris<\/em>\u2019 role<\/a> in preparing land transfer deeds following the establishment of Punjab Land Records Authority (PLRA).<\/p>\n<p>He asked the provincial governments to submit their reply regarding functioning of <em>patwaris, kanungos and tehsildars<\/em> in urban areas.
