Lahore: The government is working on developing a water authority under which clean drinking water will be made available to the people of Punjab in the next five years, a news source quoted Governor Chaudhry Sarwar. The Punjab Aab-e-Pak Authority will manage all potable water-related issues.<\/p>\n

Sarwar said that unsafe drinking water leads to about 1.1 million deaths annually, adding that at least 20% of the Punjabi population is suffering from water-borne diseases.<\/p>\n

The Punjab governor had earlier constituted a seven-member committee to suggest policies regarding the formation of a number of water bodies at the tehsil<\/em> level<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The water bodies will be headed by assistant commissioners, whose primary task will be to recommend sites for the construction of water filtration plants \u2013 as well as their post-installation maintenance.<\/p>\n
