Islamabad: The Senate Standing Committee on Maritime Affairs has decided to make Gwadar a tax-free zone, a news source reported. The decision comes following the recommendations of the sub-committee.<\/p>\n

It was also decided that investors in Gwadar<\/a> should be facilitated similarly to those in other social economic zones. Presenting the report to the Standing Committee, Senator Kauda Babar informed that a report has been finalised after negotiations with relevant stakeholders. Member of Balochistan Assembly Jamal Kalmati was also consulted with.<\/p>\n

The report also mentioned the problems faced by local fishermen within the community. Additionally, it expressed concern over the lack of public facilities provided at the Gwadar Airport. Suggestions were made to bring it to par with the big airports in the country.<\/p>\n

In other recommendations, establishment of a 300 megawatts coal power plant was suggested. Proposals for railroads, quality internet service, potable water, and electricity have also been made to accelerate Gwadar\u2019s development.<\/p>\n

Other senators in attendance also made their opinions known. It was suggested to lift the investment ban imposed by Gwadar Development Authority. Floating cage fish farming was discussed due to its high feasibility in Gwadar\u2019s terrain. Furthermore, collaboration with Chinese authorities was proposed. This will help provide finances for local fishermen\u2019s families, and tap into Gawadar\u2019s untapped resources for the betterment of the locals.<\/p>\n
