Islamabad: The Supreme Court was informed on Wednesday that 6,072 housing societies established inside the country were illegal \u2013 a news source reported.<\/p>\n

A three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar, heard a case regarding this issue. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) submitted a forensic audit report detailing the specifics of the said schemes.<\/p>\n

The report said that the number of registered housing societies stood at 3,053. Of those registered, six hundred and sixty seven were cooperative schemes.<\/p>\n

Similarly, the number of societies which had applied for registration was 1,716. The report also sought legal action against 3,720 illegal schemes. It further claimed that at least 86 housing societies were operating in Gwadar.<\/p>\n

Previously, several government departments had launched inquiries into this issue. Officials of NAB, FIA, ACE, and Cooperatives Department had been involved in the proceedings.<\/p>\n

Hearing the case, the bench ordered FIA to submit a report after every three months. It also asked the affectees of illegal schemes to lodge their cases directly with the agency.<\/p>\n
