Peshawar: The government is serious about promoting the country\u2019s private and social sectors under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project \u2013 a news source reported.<\/p>\n

Chinese Ambassador Yao Jing expressed these views. He was speaking at an educational event held in the Area Study Centre for Russia, China and Central Asia. The seminar took place at the University of Peshawar.<\/p>\n

Former Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (DG ISI) Lt General (R) Asad Durrani, former vice-chancellor University of Peshawar Prof Dr Azmat Hayat Khan, and former ambassador to Afghanistan Rustam Shah Mohmand, were all present at the event.<\/p>\n

Jing dispelled the impression that CPEC had any political implications. He said that the project was a purely economy-driven venture; being the only bilateral initiative among the six \u2018economic corridors\u2019 initiated by China.<\/p>\n

The ambassador said that CPEC had created jobs for at least 70,000 Pakistanis. He stated that the number of Chinese individuals working on CPEC was less than 10,000.<\/p>\n
