Lahore: Kiln owners have found the incorporation of zigzag technology for baking bricks to be an additional and unaffordable expense for their businesses, reported a new source. The experiments done in this regard, according to sources, have turned out to be a failure.<\/p>\n
To sort out the matter, kiln owners have approached the Punjab government\u2019s Environment Protection Agency (EPA). They have requested the government to extend the deadline for installing the technology in all kilns across the province. They further requested that the duration for converting the conventional kilns to the zigzag model should be increased to five years.<\/p>\n
With regard to implementing the new environment-friendly model, the kiln owners have some valid concerns. As most of the kilns in the country use coal as their primary power source, the zigzag model causes this raw material to soak water. This issue, in turn, badly affects the blower\u2019s efficiency \u2013 which becomes dysfunctional in about two months.<\/p>\n
According to members of Bhatta Association, the cost to replace a blower is PKR 600,000. Kiln owners, as such, can\u2019t afford to spend this hefty amount every second month.<\/p>\n
Zigzag technology has successfully managed to reduce environmental pollution levels in Nepal. Implementing this framework in Pakistan, without coming up with solutions to cope with the climate difference between the two countries, is not possible in the short-term.<\/p>\n
