Lahore: The Punjab Irrigation Department has agreed to remodel the BRB Canal to provide a link for supplying 100 cusecs of canal water to the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), a news source reported. This will be turned into clean drinking water to meet the city\u2019s needs.<\/p>\n
Previously, a mini-dam construction was proposed by the irrigation department near Ravi Syphon for the purpose.<\/p>\n
According to WASA Managing Director Zahid Aziz, around 15,000 acres of prime agricultural land would have been submerged in case WASA opted for a mini dam at Ravi Syphon. Another issue with the Ravi Syphon site was that it was located at a considerable distance from the location of the water treatment plant near Bhaini village (on GT Road).<\/p>\n
The aim in either case was to meet the city\u2019s requirement, and preserve the underground water aquifer.<\/p>\n
Under the approved project, WASA will construct three wastewater treatment plants and one surface water treatment plant in Lahore.<\/p>\n
