Islamabad: The Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) has approved the restoration of toll plazas at the entry points of the city on Rawat, Golra Mor, and I.J Principal Road – a news source reported. A sum of about PKR 2 billion in annual revenue is expected from these toll plazas.<\/p>\n
Mayor Sheikh Anser Aziz said that the revenue generated will be spent on the provision of civic amenities. MCI will finalise the terms of reference for awarding contracts to the toll plazas concerned in a few days\u2019 time. Residents of Islamabad will be exempted from the toll collection.<\/p>\n
The mayor chaired the MCI session held at the Pak China Friendship Centre.<\/p>\n
Restoration of wooden stalls was also approved for various sectors. The consent of Capital Development Authority (CDA), however, is needed for the commencement of this work.<\/p>\n
CDA had ceased toll collections at the city\u2019s entry points in 2013, after completion of their contract-term, on the directive of the previous government. Following MCI\u2019s formation, the authority transferred control of these toll plazas to the said body.<\/p>\n
