Quetta: Iran has expressed interest in becoming part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project, according to a news report. This interest was expressed during a meeting between the Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Mehdi Honardoost and members of the Pak-Iran Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry.<\/p>\n
Attendees of the meeting included the Pak-Iran Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Haji Wali Noorzai, Iranian Consul General Agha Muhammad Rafiee, Quetta Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Haji Jumma Badezai, and other members of the trade community.<\/p>\n
The ambassador emphasised the importance of CPEC in the domains of regional cooperation and trade. He stated that Iran\u2019s transit and energy support could prove instrumental to the success of the mega-project. He also expressed Iran\u2019s willingness to be part of CPEC and contribute whatever resources available to it.<\/p>\n
Honardoost also discussed Pak-Iran ties in the meeting and emphasised on the need for strengthening bilateral trade. He stated that Iran is willing to boost trade with Pakistan up to the USD 5 billion mark, and promoting cooperation between the two countries.<\/p>\n
