Faisalabad: The government of Denmark has approved a wastewater treatment plant project for Faisalabad, a news source reported. The project is to be developed at a cost of PKR 20 billion, and will reportedly treat about 44 million gallons of waste water daily.<\/p>\n
According to a Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) hand-out, the Danish Embassy said that the Danish board of governors had approved the project.<\/p>\n
The hand-out also quoted WASA Managing Director (MD) Faqir Hussain, who has said that the various city-areas, in total, are generating 310 million gallons of wastewater daily. This water causes pollution levels in the city to rise, before making its ways into the Ravi River.<\/p>\n
The MD further said that the project will not only improve the city\u2019s environment, but also help farmers to irrigate their crops efficiently.<\/p>\n
Danish Ambassador to Pakistan Mr Rolf Holmboe and WASA MD signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the project last year.<\/p>\n
