Lahore: For provision of clean drinking water in the Punjab, the provincial government has formed the Punjab Aab-e-Pak Authority, reported a news source. Punjab Governor Chaudhry Ghulam Sarwar signed the bill to formally sanction the project.<\/p>\n

Previously, the Punjab Assembly approved the bill for formation of the water authority in March. According to the notification issued, Governor Sarwar will be its Patron-in-Chief.<\/p>\n

The authority is expected to provide drinking water to 110 million people residing in Punjab. For this purpose, it will install water filtration plants across the province.<\/p>\n

As per the stats shared by the governor, 80% of the people resident in Punjab continue to remain deprived of clean water \u2013 resulting in 1.1 million annual deaths due to waterborne diseases.<\/p>\n
