Islamabad: Nearly half of the demand for 500,000 low-cost homes under Naya Pakistan Housing Programme comes from Islamabad, according to a news report. This was revealed in a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Housing and Works.<\/p>\n

Islamabad has seen its population rise from 800,000 to two million in last two decades.<\/p>\n

The meeting of the senate committee was chaired by Senator Mir Kabeer Shahi. Speaking to the committee, the housing secretary said that all such schemes in the past had failed because the project was not prepared according to public demand.<\/p>\n

He said that, so far, the government has received a demand of 500,000 homes in seven districts of the country. Out of this total demand, Islamabad accounted for around 230,000 houses.<\/p>\n

The committee also directed the secretary to provide complete information on the project after Eid-ul-Fitr.<\/p>\n
