Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) board on Monday approved new by-laws for developing commercial buildings in the capital city, a news source reported.<\/p>\n

CDA Chairman and Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Chief Commissioner Amir Ali Ahmed presided over a meeting of the CDA board, which took up several issues (including the conversion of small markets into large commercial areas) for discussion.<\/p>\n

The board members were of the view that high-rises could be constructed along those roads with a right-of-way (ROW) measuring 300 yards in Blue Area, Sectors G8-G11, and on the Kashmir Highway.<\/p>\n

As per reports, this policy will only be applicable for new constructions. The CDA board has not permitted the owners of existing multi-storey\u00a0structures to make changes to their designs. Moreover, it has allowed the construction of high-rises only on large plots.<\/p>\n

For constructing new commercial buildings, the contractors will be required to provide the layout plans in advance \u2013 which must include the areas reserved for green belts within the project boundaries.<\/p>\n

The CDA officials are of the opinion that the construction of high-rise buildings along the IJ Principle Road will help increase trading activities in the city. The civic agency also plans to vacate and later sell its land in Sector I-9.
