Hyderabad: The deputy commissioners of Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, and Mirpurkhas divisions have been instructed to undertake necessary arrangements<\/a> against heavy downpour predicted in Sindh, a news source reported. The orders were given in the wake of widespread complaints of failure on part of all district authorities in dealing with issues related to heavy rains and flooding over the past couple of weeks.<\/p>\n

Hyderabad Commissioner Abdul Waheed Shaikh noted during a meeting on Tuesday that flooding during recent heavy downpour was a result of clogged storm drain and sewers. He ordered the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) to clean out these drains and sewers ahead of the expected heavy rains to facilitate smooth drainage during the coming week. He also ordered the removal of encroachment from storm water drains on a permanent basis.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Sindh Minister for Agriculture Mohammad Ismail Rahu has ordered the Sindh Irrigation and Drainage Authority (SIDA) and the irrigation department to make the necessary arrangements to deal with the expected heavy rainfall. He has asked the officials concerned to reinforce weak dykes and embankments of both drains and irrigation canals in Badin district.
