Rawalpindi: The government on Wednesday released funds worth PKR 3 billion for the officials concerned to commence with the development work in four districts of Rawalpindi division, a news source reported. As per officials, the total allocations (in FY2019-20) for these districts stand at PKR 15 billion.<\/p>\n

The authorities sanctioned the release of funds during a meeting presided over by Rawalpindi Commissioner Saqib Zafar. The deputy commissioners of Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, and Jhelum were all present at the occasion.<\/p>\n

Previously, the government had allocated PKR 4 billion for the Rawalpindi Ring Road\u2019s (RRR) land acquisition process. As per officials, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has agreed to provide a loan for the RRR, provided the government procures the land for the project.<\/p>\n

According to an official privy to the details, the initial work on the project has begun and appointment of the consultant to work on feasibility study is in final stage. The authorities will begin procuring land after the feasibility study.<\/p>\n

In addition, Rs2.5bn was allocated for Daducha Dam to meet Rawalpindi\u2019s water requirements. Initial work on Daducha Dam has started and the city administration has been asked to clear encroachments off the land.<\/p>\n

The Ghazi Barotha dam project also came under discussion with regard to water shortage in the city.
