Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Environment Protection Agency (EPA)<\/a> have jointly launched a plantation drive along the Faisal Avenue. This initiative aims to counteract the damages of deforestation. CDA Chairman Amer Ali Ahmed and the Director General EPA planted saplings on the site to officially launch the campaign.<\/p>\n

It was decided that for every tree chopped to facilitate the construction of an underpass (that will link G-7 & G- 8), 30 new saplings will be planted.<\/p>\n

Previously, the EPA had issued directions for the CDA to make the necessary preparations to carry out the campaign (with help from the civic society and environment groups) at the site prior to commencing with the development work.<\/p>\n

Moreover, the CDA chairman revealed that 990 trees (5-8 ft tall) will be planted at the site, for the 30 trees that will be removed. Most other trees will be shifted instead of being chopped. Another CDA official said that these new saplings will include 300 Cheerpine, 250 Alistonia, 200 Pilkhan, 200 Sukchain and 40 Sapium; all local species so they can thrive in the local atmosphere.<\/p>\n
