Faisalabad: The Regional Tax Office (RTO) of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has detected over 200,000 illegal commercial and industrial electricity connections allegedly installed (in the duration between July 2014 to June 2019) by the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO)<\/a> that violates the governing regulations, according to news sources.<\/p>\n

The beneficiaries of these connections have been issued notices by the department that dictates them to become registered users or face legal consequences.<\/p>\n

Similarly, the FBR has asked FESCO to present the details of the commercial and industrial units installed in an attempt to broaden the tax net. The record reveals that the FESCO had issued 268,693 (commercial) and 35,930 (industrial) connections in the mentioned duration.<\/p>\n

During the FBR scrutiny, it was found that FESCO had issued 130,000 commercial and 26,000 industrial connections without seeking the CNIC details of the users. Moreover, about 48,000 connections were faulty, as multiple connections were issued against the same CNIC, or issued to people who do not hold an NTN number, which is a clear law violation.<\/p>\n
