Islamabad: The authorities concerned identified close to a thousand benami properties in the capital city as part of the government\u2019s ongoing crackdown against tax evaders \u2013 a news source reported.<\/p>\n

The government had recently directed deputy commissioners around the country to identify benami properties in their jurisdictions by examining revenue records. These records were also shared with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for initiating legal action on this front.<\/p>\n

The capital administration immediately began its campaign following the government\u2019s directive and asked the revenue department to verify and examine properties registered with the authority. Similarly, tehsildars, patwaris and girdawars were asked to verify properties registered in their offices and carry out surveys in their areas.<\/p>\n

As per officials, there are close to 160,000 houses and more than 30,000 shops and 30,000 commercial properties in the 24 sectors that comprises Islamabad\u2019s urban district. Additionally, the rural area consists of 26 major villages. The city\u2019s rural areas have more than 250,000 houses, 40,000 shops and 20,000 commercial properties.<\/p>\n
