Bangkok: The federal government has decided to deploy the services of student architects to design the five million affordable homes it has promised to construct within five years under the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme (NPHP), a news source reported.<\/p>\n

Chairman of the federal taskforce on housing Zaigham Rizvi was attending a housing forum in Bangkok where he revealed the information. \u00a0He added that they would utilise local materials and new technologies in order meet the target of keeping costs lower.<\/p>\n

Rizvi stated that the students would take cultural and geographical needs into account during the design process. He added that the government wants to engage the youth in resolving the issues of the nation.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has expressed his commitment to building four million homes in rural and urban areas of the country<\/a> over a period of five years. The government would construct the remaining one million homes in peri-urban areas.<\/p>\n

Rizvi said that this was the biggest government-backed housing programme ever attempted. He added that its success would meet half of Pakistan\u2019s housing needs.<\/p>\n
