Karachi: The Sindh government has decided to beautify and develop Nahr-i-Khayyam as a recreational spot for families \u2013 a news source reported.<\/p>\n

This was decided in a meeting of the Sindh cabinet on Monday. The Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah presided over the meeting.<\/p>\n

The cabinet also endorsed its earlier decision to enforce a complete ban on the manufacture, sale, purchase, and use of non-degradable plastic bags, except with a weight of 6 to 28 grams of 30 to 40 microns from October 1 (today).<\/p>\n

The chief minister also approved the proposal for an agreement with a private party to beautify, modernise, and develop Nahr-i-Khayyam. Speaking on the occasion, he said that this would be a gift to the people of Karachi, as families could have picnics here, enjoy sailing in boats, read books under the shade of beautiful trees, or have a cup of delicious coffee or tea on the banks of the stunning Nahr-i-Khayyam.<\/p>\n

The development of Nahr-i-Khayyam will cost about PKR 1.5 billion, to be financed by a non-government organisation, while the Sindh government will construct a conduit at the cost of PKR 50 million to segregate and ensure smooth sewage flow.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
