Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan recently approved the restructuring of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and directed the officials concerned to present a plan to this effect before the cabinet for review \u2013 according to news sources.<\/p>\n

As per officials, the overhaul aims to introduce effective corporate governance model in the organisation and make the development authority even more efficient in its performance and service delivery. To facilitate this measure, the government wants to include private officials in the CDA board. The Islamabad High Court (IHC) had already ruled in 2017 for the civic agency to use a competitive process to set up its board in accordance with the CDA Ordinance 1960.<\/p>\n

According to an official statement released by the PM\u2019s Office, the restructuring plan was tabled before the PM during a meeting held in Islamabad on Monday.<\/p>\n

CDA Chairman Amer Ali Ahmed briefed the PM regarding the department\u2019s progress for the last six months. He revealed that the CDA had generated an estimated revenue of PKR 11 billion that would be utilised for development activities.<\/p>\n

It was revealed that the CDA was mainly concerned with the development sector these days and has taken up development work in the stalled sectors<\/a>; leading to construction of 23,000 housing units. The PC-1 for the sectors I-11, I-14, I-15 and E-12 has been already approved.<\/p>\n

The master plan for the capital city also came under discussion and the commission created making revisions to the plan is to present its final report in the next cabinet meeting. The plan focuses on present and future requirements of the city and addresses issues of water availability, enhanced city infrastructure, solid waste management plan, urban regeneration, conformity, slums and new building codes etc.<\/p>\n
