Rawalpindi: The Punjab government has allowed the Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) to commence with the launch of the stalled uplift schemes in the city, based on the recommendations of several local lawmakers, according to news sources.\u00a0 A sum of PKR 500 million is expected to be utilised for the development of road and street infrastructure within the initiative’s first phase.<\/p>\n

Previously, the RMC had allocated over PKR 1.4 billion for the development schemes in the budget year for the (fiscal year) FY2019-20, yet it did not receive the go-ahead from the provincial government. However, the divisional administration received an official letter on Monday; approving the launch of the development work.<\/p>\n

The RMC is also expected to present its detailed report on illegal constructions<\/a> in the 46 UCs, on the orders of Rawalpindi Commissioner Saqib Zafar, so legal action can be launched against the building inspectors involved. The department is also directed to launch development work in these councils, with road projects as a priority.<\/p>\n

The commissioner issued these instructions during an RMC meeting, which was held to review the performance of various administrative branches. He said that the government had ordered the removal of encroachments to ensure the smooth flow of the traffic in the city.\u00a0 He also sought a list containing constituencies of national and provincial assemblies to be prepared to ensure equal distribution of funds.<\/p>\n
