Lahore: The Government of Pakistan has decided to use hybrid construction technology to build 2.5 million low-cost houses under the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme (NPHP) in Punjab, a news source reported. The publication further revealed that the panels for these hybrid houses will be imported from China.<\/p>\n

The decision to use this new technology was taken to speed up project development, in order to expedite the process of building affordable homes for thousands of people across the country. A review of the taxes levied on the housing sector is also expected, so as to promote the use of hybrid technology in the construction sector and utilise it for the development of NPHP projects.<\/p>\n

Additionally, while presiding over a meeting during his Lahore visit\u00a0<\/a> this week, Prime Minister Imran Khan instructed the officials concerned to lower taxes in order to promote activity in the housing sector. He also directed the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency, the Housing Department, and the Punjab Housing Taskforce to form a policy for the construction of affordable NPHP homes by utilizing hybrid technology.<\/p>\n

In order to ensure the cost effectiveness of hybrid NPHP homes, the government is looking to either lower the import duties on hybrid construction technology, or entirely revoke the taxes on their import.<\/p>\n

It is expected that the government will begin installing hybrid houses under the third phase of the NPHP.
