Lahore: The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Chairman Muzammil Hussain has announced that the construction work on the Diamer-Bhasha Dam will be initiated within six to eight weeks after the contract for its development has been awarded to a suitable party, a news source reported.<\/p>\n

He made this announcement while addressing the 9th Asian Young Geotechnical Engineering Conference and the 15th International Conference on Geotechnical Engineering, at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) Chairman Prof Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid, PGES President Engr Amjad Agha, PGES Secretary General Dr Tahir Masood and UET Civil Engineering Department Chairman Prof Dr Aziz Akbar were also present at the occasion.<\/p>\n

While speaking at the event, the minister said that the under-construction Mohmand Dam and Dasu Hydropower Project (Stage-I) would be completed in 2024-25.<\/p>\n

He further said that that WAPDA was committed to adding five million acre feet (MAF) to the country\u2019s water storage capacity, and increase hydropower generation to 4,600MW by the year 2025.
