Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Wednesday directed the authorities concerned to expedite the privatisation of various underutilised government properties<\/a> and non-profitable institutions, according to news sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The PM gave these directives\nwhile chairing a meeting focused on the privatisation of various government\ninstitutions. He stated that public entities that weren\u2019t performing at their\noptimal levels should be privatized in order to reduce the burden on the\nnational treasury, and to generate income to boost social and welfare projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, PM Khan encouraged the departments concerned to boost inter-ministerial coordination to further facilitate this privatisation process; saying that this initiative was in the country\u2019s best interest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Privatisation Commission\nSecretary Rizwan Malik briefed the meeting that the privatisation of seven\ninstitutions and properties would be completed by the end of this year. He\nrevealed that these projects included two re-gasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG)\npower plants, the SME bank, the Jinnah Convention Centre Islamabad, the Services\nInternational Portal Lahore, and 27 state-owned properties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The PM was further informed that\nseven transactions would be completed by June of this year.
