Karachi: The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation\u2019s (KMC) current city council on Monday passed the last annual budget of its tenure \u2014 worth PKR 24.84 billion \u2014 for (Fiscal Year) FY2020-21, according to news sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this budget, no new taxes are introduced and the KMC city council meeting was held and approved in the council hall of the Old KMC building on MA Jinnah Road, under the chair of Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar. The budget was characteristically surplus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the budget document, the municipal administration\u2019s total estimated budget is PKR 24.845 billion and the current receipts in the budget are PKR 20.67 billion, whereas the capital receipts are PKR 1.66 billion. The city council allocated PKR 2.5 billion to the Annual Development Programme (ADP) and PKR 15.57 billion as establishment expenditures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, PKR 200.96 million were allocated for repair and maintenance, and estimations for development works are PKR 4.38 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mayor<\/a> said that PKR 680 million are earmarked for the repair and maintenance of the city\u2019s infrastructure. The Special Development Project and Nehr-i-Khayyam will receive PKR 120 million each. PKR 100 million has been earmarked for the Kidney Hill Park. For the uplift of the Shahabuddin Market Parking Plaza, PKR 300 million is allocated; and PKR 100 million (each) is allocated for the uplift\/lightening of major city arteries and various parks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the cleanliness of drains, the council has allocated PKR 100 million. PKR 75 million is earmarked for maintenance of underpasses, flyovers, and bridges. The sum of PKR 75 million was earmarked for the uplift of landfill sites, construction of a fire station and Zulfikarabad Oil Tankers Parking Terminal\u2019s phase II.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, the KMC allocated PKR 52 million to fund the development initiatives at the zoos and the Safari Park, while PKR 50 million has been allocated for the purchase of various birds and animals.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
