Lahore: The Government of Punjab has announced to offer loans (in the form of matching grants) to fund the conversion of brick kilns to zigzag technology \u2013 a more environmentally friendly option that is also expected to increase the kilns\u2019 production capacity, according to a news source published on July 16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decision was made in a meeting held on Wednesday, under the chair of Minister for Industries and Trade Mian Aslam Iqbal. The meeting agreed to offer loans to the brick kiln<\/a> owners at 2% service charges, which will be returned in the 2-year period. The meeting also decided that some 700 kilns, that have already transferred themselves onto the newer technology, will be given preference while granting loans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minister Iqbal addressed the meeting and reiterated that Clean & Green Pakistan is the top priority of the government to ensure a pollution-free climate to the new generation. He said that the government is using all available resources to secure this objective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, the minister said that the loan process will be initiated after the mechanism of technology transfer for brick kilns in Punjab is finalised.
