Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Bureau of Agriculture Director General Information Abid Kamal has expressed concern over unplanned urbanisation<\/a> in KP and urged the government to undertake practical measures and legislation to save agricultural land, according to a news source published on July 29.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said that cities like Peshawar, Mardan, Abbottabad and Dera Ismail Khan are losing rich agricultural land in wake of unplanned towns and commercial activities. He cautioned the government to take notice of the matter before the provinces begins to face problems like floods, food security and pollution \u2013 when it is already struggling with issues like loss of agricultural land, deforestation and climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reportedly, the total agriculture land in the province is reduced to 106,576 acres in 2013-14 from 109,883 acres in 2001-02.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recently, Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan also stressed that unplanned city expansion is causing complex civic issues, and are a threat to agriculture and the environment.
