Lahore: The federal government has approved a mega project for the rehabilitation of the Lahore Fort<\/a>, and conversion of the surrounding area into a buffer zone with a cost of PKR 3.65 billion, according to a news source published on August 19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Previously, the Government of Punjab had prepared the PC-1 for Lahore Fort\u2019s rehabilitation project and forwarded it for the centre\u2019s approval. The project will take five years to complete. The fort\u2019s rehabilitation will cost PKR 1.45 billion and the adjoining buffer zone will cost PKR 1.97 billion, and the project management unit will cost another PKR 330 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As per the sources, the project will include digging for lost artefacts, rehabilitation of the public courtroom (dewan-e-aam) and old Akbari Gate to its original form, and a museum and media centre will also be established.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
