Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Thursday announced that the citizens of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) would soon be extended health insurance under the government’s Sehat<\/a> Sahulat Programme, according to news sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As per the details, annual health insurance of worth PKR 1 million per family will be given to all families residing in KP \u2013 through their Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) numbers in a phased manner. Under this programme, both the public and private hospitals will treat the provincial residents free of cost. The State Life Insurance Corporation \u2013 chosen after a competitive bidding process \u2013 will be paid PKR 2,849 per family annually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the ceremonial address, Khan lauded the initiative and hinted at extending the same initiative in other provinces. He observed that this step will improve the public healthcare sector as it will be competing with the private hospitals \u2013 offering the same services for free. He revealed that the private hospitals will be offered incentives like no duty charges on imported medical equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, the premier said that the departments of Auqaf and evacuee trust will sell land on reduced rates to any investor who wishes to build a hospital.
