Peshawar:\u00a0 The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP<\/a>) Assembly on Tuesday approved a bill to establish 11 new autonomous urban area uplift authorities in the province \u2014 with the initiative aimed at achieving and maintaining high-performance standards in the planning and implementation of the province\u2019s development schemes, according to news sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Urban Areas Development Authorities Act, 2020, that was passed after several amendments by the provincial assembly, new urban development authorities will be established in Abbottabad, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Mardan, Mansehra, Swat, Swabi, Kohat, Karak, Dir (upper and lower) and Chitral (upper and lower).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The law further states that the departments concerned shall form the \u2018Urban Development Authorities\u2019 Board\u2019 that will be chaired by the minister for local government. This board will approve policies, regulations and guidelines related to the operations of the development authorities \u2014 particularly in terms of their budget, finances, investments, and human resource administration.
