Islamabad: The Islamabad Ring Road project development is expected to begin during the first quarter of 2021, a news source reported on Friday (Sep 4). Without quoting its source, the report further states that the official approval in this regard has already been sanctioned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The story additionally claims that Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar has agreed to allocate development funds for the ring road project under the federal Annual Development Programme for the current fiscal year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Islamabad Ring Road project was proposed last year when the related developments for the Rawalpindi Ring Road initiative were being completed. While both the ring roads are meant to provide an alternate traffic route for the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, the executive agency for overseeing the Islamabad Ring Road project development has yet to be finalised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This particular ring road highway stretch will be more than 50 kilometers in length with its starting point set at Sangjani; the point where the Rawalpindi Ring Road also terminates. After looping in Islamabad along the Margalla Avenue and heading all the way to the Express Highway, the road will end at the starting point of Rawalpindi Ring Road at the site of the Radio Pakistan Building in Rawat (on GT Road) \u2013 and is set to be developed on the pattern followed by the motorways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The news source further stated that the ground breaking for the Rawalpindi Ring Road project is expected to be performed in November this year; while that for the Islamabad Ring Road would be held in March 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
