Islamabad: Pakistan and China on Monday agreed to covert the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC<\/a>) project into a model green belt and road initiative to preserve and protect the natural environment in the region, according to news sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decision was reached following a meeting between a three-member delegation headed by China\u2019s Ambassador to Pakistan Nong Rong and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several important \u2018green agendas\u2019 including climate resilience, environmental sustainability, green economic recovery, renewable energy, air pollution, disaster risk reduction and water conservation were discussed at the session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SAPM Amin briefed the meeting regarding the objective of the government\u2019s \u2018Clean Green Pakistan Index\u2019; saying that the initiative aims to expand Pakistan\u2019s protected area to over 15% from the current 13% and create 5,000 green employment opportunities in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
