Islamabad: The government has announced its decision to grant \u2018industry\u2019 status to Information Technology (IT<\/a>) and telecom sector, according to a news report published on March 11. The executive has accorded this status under Prime Minister Imran Khan\u2019s \u2018Digital Pakistan\u2019 initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Federal Minister for Information Technology & Telecommunication Syed Aminul Haq said in a press briefing on Thursday that the industry status for the IT and telecom sector was approved in a cabinet meeting held last week and will be applicable from the next fiscal year. He also said that taxes on the said sector will be reduced in a phased manner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From July 2021 onwards, all the amendments in taxes and duties will be applicable \u2013 including the abolishment of PKR 250 charged on the new SIM card issuance. The Federal Excise Duty (FED) on telecommunication services has been reduced from 17% to 16%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
