Islamabad: China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority Chairman Lt. General (R) Asim Saleem Bajwa on Sunday (May 2) revealed through his official Twitter account that construction work on the Eastbay Expressway Gwadar project is in its final stages of development, according to a news source.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As per the information revealed by Chairman Bajwa, construction of the 14.5-kilometre long offshore expressway has already been completed, while work is underway on the remaining 4.5-kilometre long patch of the road \u2014 with 92% of the project having been completed so far; construction work will be completed by October this year. The said road is being developed in order to assist in cargo handling between the Gwadar port and the Makran Coast highway, that in turn connects to other parts of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project\u2019s MoU<\/a> was signed back in September 2017 between the Gwadar Port Authority and the China Communication Construction Company, while development work<\/a> on the Eastbay Expressway was initiated the following month. According to estimates made back then, construction of the 19.5-kilometer long and 6-lane wide expressway was expected to cost PKR 17 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
