Karachi: <\/strong>The Sindh government has launched a major crackdown against the water mafia in Karachi to stop water theft in the city, according to news sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While inspecting a site in Lyari after a successful operation, Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said that the action taken against the water thieves will improve the water supply in Lyari and its adjoining areas by 20-25%. The operation was conducted by Karachi Water and Sewerage Board’s (KWSB)\u2019s anti-theft cell after a water theft complaint was made in the Golimar area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The grand operation will soon be conducted in the entire city to combat water theft by people who have allegedly installed illegal connections upon the water board lines. Mr Shah also told that water was being stolen in technical as well as scientific ways under the Lyari River Bridge and other areas of the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, the minister told that the water board teams have faced resistance from the water mafia but action will be launched against those involved on a daily basis. To this effect, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah<\/a> has directed police and rangers to provide their full support to the authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The problem of water in Karachi is real and the minister has assured that the people of Karachi will get their supply of water. Earlier, millions of gallons of water stolen through ill means was sold illegally but this problem will soon be uprooted.
