Karachi: Prime Minister Imran Khan inaugurated Karachi Nuclear Power Plant Unit-2 (K-2) on Friday, which will be generating 1,100MW clean energy, according to news sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the speech, PM mentioned that China will assist in training workers and will also encourage technology sharing. PM emphasized the fact that clean energy is crucial for Pakistan to prevent water shortages. The life expectancy of the K-2 plant is supposed to be 60 years, which can be extended by 20 more years in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The construction of the power plant started in November 2013. After getting the approval from Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority, the fuel loading was commenced on December 01, 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, some hot and cold functional commissioning tests were conducted for checking safety and operation mechanism of the plant.
