Islamabad: The Federal Ministry of Information Technology (IT) and Telecommunications on Wednesday launched the “Smart Village” initiative through Universal Service Fund (USF) in all provinces, including Gilgit-Baltistan and the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT<\/a>), according to media reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Huawei Technologies Pakistan and the International Telecommunication Union will provide technical help and funding for the project. Under this initiative, facilities with cutting-edge technology will be established in underserved locations. It will be used to train locals on how to use IT services and to inspire them to adopt them into their daily life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ceremony was inaugurated by Federal Minister IT and Telecommunication Syed Amin ul Haque, who was joined by Federal Secretary for IT and Telecommunication Muhammad Sohail Rajput, USF Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Haaris Mahmood Chaudhary, International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Area Representative for Southeast Asia Dr Ismail Shah, and Huawei CEO Mark Meng.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, Syed Amin ul Haque stated that the Ministry of IT and Telecommunications will collaborate with Huawei and ITU to digitally change rural places. It is hoped that this collaboration would improve access to digital services in the sectors of education, trade, health, and livelihood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At first, one smart village would be established in Islamabad, Sindh, Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, the National Information Technology Board (NITB) has already launched more than 30 government online portals, websites, and mobile applications for public services.
