Islamabad: World Bank Country Director Najy Benhassine on Friday announced that the World Bank has approved USD 442 million for the development of schemes focused on the provision of potable water and sanitation in various parts of Punjab, news sources reported. The project is expected to benefit 6 million people in the most vulnerable 200 villages of the province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Punjab Rural Sustainable Water Supply and Sanitation Project (PRSWSSP) will assist expand access to water supply and sanitation by rehabilitating existing projects and constructing new ones. The overall advantage will be a reduction in waterborne diseases and stunted child growth caused by inadequate access to clean water. According to the WB statement, the Country Director stated that the project is specifically planned to focus on some of the province’s most vulnerable and drought-prone areas in order to promote equitable and sustainable access to water resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, the document released by the WB shows that the funds will be spent as follows:
\u25cf Overall 16 districts of Punjab will be covered in the project
\u25cf Out of the total, eight districts will be from South Punjab
\u25cf 25% of the total districts will be from North and South Punjab Respectively<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall the project will increase the accessibility of water to 2000 villages in total and will facilitate over six million people.
In addition to infrastructure development, the project will also start local community training programs to make the local community capable of operating, maintaining and running the project on their own.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
