Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah on Friday (July 2) stated that the federal government has decided to allocate apartments under Naya Pakistan Housing Programme (NPHP) to the families displaced because of the anti-encroachment operation carried out along Orangi and Gujjar nullahs in Karachi, a news source reported. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CM further revealed that the centre has also agreed to provide two-month rent at the rate of PKR 15,000 to the affected people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CM Murad Ali Shah expressed that it is the obligation of the provincial government to offer shelter to those affected. The provincial government intends to offer displaced families with 80-square-yard plots<\/a> in either the Lyari Development Authority’s (LDA) Scheme-42 or Taiser Town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the news conference, the CM asked the Supreme Court to release the PKR 10 billion cash recovered from Bahria Town for Karachi development projects. The cash will be utilised to build 6,500 homes, a water supply and drainage system, and road improvements in the Malir area. A drainage system will also be built on the left bank of the Indus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due to limited resources, the Sindh government has chosen to submit three applications before the Supreme Court (SC). The first application will be filed for residential building and infrastructural development. This project will cost PKR 3.5 billion in total. The second proposal will be connected to the Malir district, where several development projects are being implemented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
