A lot can be said about the way Pakistan was made to survive the last 15 years where media has been deciding which issues were important and which ones were not, as well as creating new hot issues to subdue the existing matters of more importance.<\/p>\n<p>We are facing the consequences of lack of interest of previous people-in-power in considering the needs of the country, including that of electricity. Nonetheless, things appear to be moving in the right direction, at least in terms of electricity generation and infrastructural developments, of course. It was advertised in today\u2019s newspapers that World Bank has offered financing of $600 million for the Dasu Hydropower Project. When completed, in 2019, the Dasu Hydropower Project will produce 4,500 MW of very cheap electricity.<\/p>\n<p>The project is located on Indus River, 7km upstream of Dasu Village, District Kohistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Diamer-Basha Dam lies 75km from the site of Dasu Dam while Islamabad is only 350km away. This project commenced in April 2010 and with World Bank agreeing to finance the project with $600 million, we can expect the development work to pace up at the site.<\/p>\n<p>Seeing a mega power generation project getting ready to fight the soaring electricity shortage in the country after almost 40 years, we just hope that it meets its completion deadline despite whoever comes into power for the next 5-year tenure.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pakistan is in dire need of power production projects, not just to give relief to the load-shedding struck people from all corners of Pakistan but to spin the economic wheel and save many local industries.
