Islamabad:\u00a0 The Surveyor General of Pakistan on Thursday (October 14)\u00a0 announced that the government has completed phase 1 of the cadastral mapping of state land, news sources reported. According to the updated maps, 96 % of the land in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), 90 % in Punjab<\/a>, and\u00a0 50% in Balochistan have been digitised. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This information was revealed during a meeting of the National Coordination Committee (NCC) on Housing Construction and Development presided over by the Prime Minister (PK) Imran Khan. On the occasion, the premier stated that with the completion of the digital mapping of state land, the government would be better able to monitor land usage and safeguard green areas, therefore ensuring food security. He went on to say that cadastral mapping will help prevent unlawful land usage and boost income generating streams. PM Khan also directed the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJ&K) administration to speed work on the land use legislation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, Members of the Capital Development Authority informed the conference that, after the completion of Islamabad’s cadastral mapping, the authority has begun enforcing fines on unlawful encroachments. The income earned thus far has been used for the benefit of the public and to compensate those who have been affected by unlawful housing schemes. Moreover, the premier also directed competent authorities to speed construction on the River Ravi urban project, citing its importance.
